How Links knows where you are

  1. Your phone checks in

    A few times a day, iOS wakes Links with a coarse location.

  2. Matched to a country

    Apple’s geocoder turns the fix into a country. The fix is then deleted.

  3. Added to your timeline

    Check-ins become stays, stays become day counts, and every limit updates.

Links keeps your travel record on your phone. What syncs is a country and a time, nothing more.
